Let me start out with this. If I have sent you a Solstice Card in the past and you want one this year - Email or PM me your address. No address - no card. Simple. I'll be working on these like a crazy person for the next three weeks and should be able to stuff them into the mail just before the Solstice. At least, that's the ideal. I love making these, I love sending these, and I don't require a card in return. But I do require an address...I know...such a concept - LOL.

I'm working hard on staying positive even though at this time of the year I'm operating on a tank that is rapidly approaching empty. I am 75% finished with my LOTR Community Gen Yule Fic, so I'm comfortable where I am with that. Maybe I'll continue working on that this morning instead of working on my novel, just for a change of pace. I have started looking at what I want for the design of my solstice cards (ARE YOU ON MY LIST? I'D LOVE TO SEND YOU ONE BUT YOU HAVE TO MESSAGE ME WITH YOUR ADDRESS) and I'm into the next edit with my "Dragon" story (thank goodness for editors and the opportunity to look over a piece from a distance of time). I'm still walking at least four days a week on the treadmill (should really increase that to at least five days a week) and I'm losing weight which makes me happy. So...why aren't I turning joyful somersaults for my life? Good question.

It's been a turbulent year and as I approach Thanksgiving, a day that I do commonly call "Turkey Day", I did want to take a short amount of time for reflection and true thankfulness because sometimes a person needs to do that. I go.

Thank you for unfriending me -
OK, I know that sounds totally strange. Why thank anyone for unfriending someone when it is supposed to be a cutting of the Gordian Knot, an end of friendship, a cessation of commentary and interplay. Well, although I miss three of the five people who decided they were no longer interested in me, I still gained from them and the time they had taken with me in earlier times to improve my writing. There are two people that I really don't miss and wouldn't consider refriending in the future, but three that I would happily open the doors for once more, as stupid as that might be. Don't worry though - I doubt the occasion will arise.
I'm thankful for many things, click and take a look, it's an unlocked post )

Kristallnacht is a word that resonates with shame down through the years of history. On the night of November 9-10, 1938, organized pogroms occurred throughout Germany specifically targeting Jewish people, businesses and places of religious worship. More than 250 synagogues were burned or destroyed, 7500 Jewish businesses were looted, vandalized or destroyed and almost one hundred Jewish people were killed. It is not unusual in history to have riots or uprisings against one group of people by another. It is not unusual to have violent times where one hundred or more people are lying dead by sunup. What made Kristallnacht infamous, even today, is the fact that this uprising, these murders and this destruction was state sanctioned, state backed, and in many cases carried out by forces representing the elected government.

One of the many burning synagogues throughout Germany
on Kristallnacht.

why compare Kristallnacht with this past week's elections? Read below the cut to find out... )

And the People Spoke. From their farms and houses, their factories and schools, they gathered into their appointed locations and spoke their Will and the Will of the People carried... Barak Obama was again returned to the White House.

Praise the People - Praise Them with Great Praise

And the People Spoke. The rights of all People were acclaimed and preserved. In the great lands of Maine and Maryland, all People of any sex now have a right to wed. In the great land of Minnesota the State Constitution may NOT be amended to state that marriage is only legal if it is between one man and one woman. The People in these states recognized and acknowledged that gay and lesbian relationships are legitimate in the eyes of the law.

Praise the People - Praise Them with Great Praise

And the People Spoke. In the lands of mountains - those lands named Colorado and Washington, the People may now possess a small amount of marijuana for recreational use. The measure didn't pass in Oregon, but baby steps - large baby steps - were taken.

Praise the People - Praise Them with Great Praise

And the People Spoke. In the great land of Minnesota the two ladies - Amy and Betty - were returned to Congress. People who care, people who respond and people who vote with the voice of their constituents are increasingly rare. Amy and Betty do that, and they do it well.

Praise the People - Praise Them with Great Praise

And the People Spoke. And in my household joy radiates (from me) and sorrow spreads (from my DH) because the Blue's have it!

Praise the People - Praise Them with Great Praise

This is my blog post for today. It's my day off and I'll be working on my NaNo for the day and attending my first NaNoWriMo Write-in at my local library tonight. It is my first and may also be my last social NaNo gathering, but I am actually looking forward to it. Have a phenomenal day filled with joy, hope, and accomplishments.

Taking a short break from NaNo to speak about something near and dear to my heart, I come to the point of tomorrow. For those of my friends who are in the US, tomorrow is election day. Now, there are many things that we can look forward to because of this day. One thing is the vitriolic and misleading commercials will finally cease. At this point I am just about ready to scream if I hear another one. Another thing that will happen is too many people who care only about toeing the party line will once again be sent to Congress, resulting in a Congress that is deadlocked and completely ineffective. And the third thing that will happen is that a President will be elected.

Vote Vote Vote...why? Check below the cut... )

This is my final morning blog post until December, and today is Samhain (also known as Halloween to many of you). It is a time when the boundaries thin and communication between living and dead is opened. It is a time to reflect on those who have passed on and think about the year ahead. Continue to finalize your harvest, celebrate your friends and push those things that were negative in your past year underneath the earth, to be cleansed by the Mother.

Trick or treat is a time-honored tradition in the US and I usually get college kids from the local Christian college. I love my trick-or-treaters and always get candy to give to them. Seeing their inventive and thrown-together costumes always makes me smile. It will be colder tonight, although we don't have snow yet, so I won't have the 50+ that I had last year when it was very mild and warm, but I know I'll have some coming to my porch and I welcome them. I hope that your celebration of the holiday, however you choose to honor it, brings you joy.

Some Samhain pics and wishes for all of you below the cut... )

There are a lot of you who were in the path of Hurricane Sandy yesterday. If you have power and if you possibly can, please check in here to let us know that you and your families are all right.

Underneath those clouds is the East Coast of the US.

The power of this storm was phenomenal and wide-spread destruction ensued. The subway system under the East River is flooded and shut down for at least several days. Ocean City, a favorite place for Dawn Felegund, was badly flooded and is still flooded. The hurricane came to land around Atlantic City, New Jersey and conditions were so bad that some of the rescue shelters were flooded, requiring a second rescue for some of the residents.
this is not a long post, but there are a couple of additional pics so I put things under a cut as a courtesy )

Well, the US is settling into a waiting game. Hurricane Sandy will hit the East Coast tonight probably somewhere in New Jersey. That will effectively shut down New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Virginia and other nearby states, many of them for days. It's a huge storm combining with a full moon for maximal storm surges and they are saying that snow and ice will accompany rain far into the interior of the nation. I have a lot of on-line friends and acquaintances who live in the impacted areas and all I can do is pray that they will pass through this unscathed, warm, dry, and safe. My thoughts are with all of you.

The power of the ocean is amazing.

An online friend posted a question the other day that got me thinking. When you write a story, who do you write for? Are you writing just for you? Are you writing for your reading audience? If you are writing for yourself, then why bother posting at all? But if you are writing for an audience, who comprises that audience? Good questions.

There are some interesting benefits to signing up for NaNoWriMo, one of which is the opportunity to test-drive some writing software and, if I like it, to purchase it after November at a reduced price. I had already been checking out a trial version of Scrivner, which I liked but which had a steep learning curve for me. (I'm just a writer, usually using MS Word or Open Office to put my words to screen, not really setting up larger pieces.) After reading through many of the offerings that would work on a non-Apple PC, I decided to download and try a program called WriteWay. Now I'm playing with the program to get used to it before November 1st.

It's crazy...or I'm crazy...or maybe a combination of the both. Questions are plaguing me this morning.

Whatever made me think that I actually had a plot lying in this vision?
How and more importantly WHY do these two get together?
Come on already, girl. Whatever made you think you had a novel in you let alone a novel in this storyline?
What was I thinking when I signed up for NaNoWriMo?

As you can tell, second week doubts and walls are hitting me early *sigh*. I always was precocious.
My maps are mounted and marked. Take a look... )

We've had some wonderful temperatures, 60's to 70's (18-23 C)during the day and 40's (7 C) overnight. But a change is coming quickly and starting tomorrow our highs will be upper 40's. I don't think I'm really ready for colder temps, although I have been wearing my leather jacket for a few days now. My ideal temps are highs in the 70's and lows in the 40's, so it's been just about perfect lately. But...I live in the snowbelt and winter will come whether I want it to or not.

What memories will you leave behind you? Thoughts below the cut. )

Sunday started out with DH and I hitting McDonald's for breakfast. DH loves going there (especially when Monopoly is ongoing) and I can tolerate it. He had his usual Egg McMuffin and Hotcakes with Coffee, I had a Yogurt Parfait, a Hash Brown and Coffee plus a Sprite. There's not a lot I can eat for breakfast there without feeling sick for the rest of the day, so yogurt parfait is a safe choice. It was good. Then we went on to Target for our monthly shop - restocked on lots of food and standard goods. And then, while putting things away, we realized that we needed to clean.

It's Saturday and I have no motivation. Just getting to work and then home again with Chipotle in my hand will be about the limit of my energy today. I'm deep into research for my NaNo since my planned novel is historical in nature and I'll be ordering maps of the area on Monday to post around my room for a few months. My poor DH will have county maps to look at for good or for bad.

We'll start out with the face fountain at the entrance
to Swarovski Crystal World in Austria. I picked this
because I sell a lot of Swarovski crystals in my store,
so it's a nod to work. Now...on to...

I need pretty things today, so I'm going to focus on fountains. No following text, but several pics of wonderful fountains to make your weekend start off well.

My hi-top shoes arrived from Zappos and I tried them out yesterday morning, walking around the shop. I determined that they were a bit too big for me, so I ordered the next half-size down from Zappos and should have those within a week. Then I can determine which size fits more comfortably and begin working on the stenciling and layout. I love the way the shoes look on and they're going to be so much fun to paint.

I won't be finger painting, but wouldn't it be fun?
How many years ago did you last paint with your fingers?

I hate it when I don't have projects perched in my brain because I splash around in my creative pond like a child with water wings. It's silly, but it's my reality. I always have projects in my head - things I want to do, images that I see that I want to bring into reality. Aside from my novel, which I do realize will need a lot of work but I'll begin dealing with that in November, I also have my shoes projects and there is a major beading project that is perching and knocking against my brain.

Sometimes I feel like a vulture just waiting for
my next creative meal.

There is some incredible beadwork out there. Click to take a look. )

In June I had saved enough to get my eyes examined and get a new, up-to-date prescription for eyeglasses. I love my eyeglasses. I have two unique and distinctive pairs of frames that I had purchased as custom pairs for my 50th birthday celebration. I had inherited some money from my mother when she passed and used some of it for my 50th celebration items - two tattoos and two pairs of eyeglasses. Returning to topic, I got a new prescription and wanted to get my glasses re-lensed for the second time since I purchased them. I finally sent pair one off on the 26th of September and got pair one back in the mail yesterday. All neat, clean, and with new Transition lenses.

These aren't my eyeglasses, but they're really kewl. They
are made from bamboo, designed by Ming. Very nice!

A friend posted these shoes yesterday and they totally took over my thoughts. I fell in love. I fell in love enough that I bought a pair of high-top Converse shoes from Zappo and they are on their way to me. Yesterday afternoon was spent with small, stolen moments at my computer researching a variety of paints and techniques for painting on canvas shoes. I'm torn between using the air brush or a hand-held brush, but I think I know what paints I want to use. Yeah! I'm gonna paint myself some shoes - LOL.

I don't know who originally painted these, but I want a pair for
myself. ordered, air brush ready, now to decide exactly
what images I want...

Today is Columbus Day which is NOT a day that I celebrate. I find it hard to celebrate the arrival of genocide onto this continent and that's what followed those three small ships from Europe to our shores. The map below shows just a few of the tribes that existed in the United States at the time Columbus landed. A map depicting today would be vastly different. So, since I don't want to dwell on negatives today, I thought I'd share beauty below the cut. I have stunning pics of a Sunrise, a Rainbow and a Waterfall to share because we all should face this day and week with a positive outlook.

Beautiful Pictures below the cut to start your day out happy! )
