So the Chex Mix is made (and happily being eaten), the prime rib is in the refrigerator awaiting cooking for Christmas Day, I'm picking up our ham this morning and DH bought his spritz cookies last night. Solstice has now arrived, the fires have been rekindled and the sun is beginning the return voyage to the heat of the summer. The lean season is beginning, but it is starting with a feast of friends, food and festivity. To honor my friends and to celebrate the Solstice, I have sunrise pictures to share with all of you today. Thank you for enriching and enlightening my life over the past year. I look forward to sharing the next with all of you.

( More pics below the cut )

comments

Let me start out with this. If I have sent you a Solstice Card in the past and you want one this year - Email or PM me your address. No address - no card. Simple. I'll be working on these like a crazy person for the next three weeks and should be able to stuff them into the mail just before the Solstice. At least, that's the ideal. I love making these, I love sending these, and I don't require a card in return. But I do require an address...I know...such a concept - LOL.

( goals for today and balancing acts below the cut... )

comments

I'm working hard on staying positive even though at this time of the year I'm operating on a tank that is rapidly approaching empty. I am 75% finished with my LOTR Community Gen Yule Fic, so I'm comfortable where I am with that. Maybe I'll continue working on that this morning instead of working on my novel, just for a change of pace. I have started looking at what I want for the design of my solstice cards (ARE YOU ON MY LIST? I'D LOVE TO SEND YOU ONE BUT YOU HAVE TO MESSAGE ME WITH YOUR ADDRESS) and I'm into the next edit with my "Dragon" story (thank goodness for editors and the opportunity to look over a piece from a distance of time). I'm still walking at least four days a week on the treadmill (should really increase that to at least five days a week) and I'm losing weight which makes me happy. So...why aren't I turning joyful somersaults for my life? Good question.

( pretty pictures below )

comments

A friend posted these shoes yesterday and they totally took over my thoughts. I fell in love. I fell in love enough that I bought a pair of high-top Converse shoes from Zappo and they are on their way to me. Yesterday afternoon was spent with small, stolen moments at my computer researching a variety of paints and techniques for painting on canvas shoes. I'm torn between using the air brush or a hand-held brush, but I think I know what paints I want to use. Yeah! I'm gonna paint myself some shoes - LOL.

I don't know who originally painted these, but I want a pair for

myself.
I'm sure every one of my readers knows the feeling. You comment in a conversation and suddenly stop - you've just said something horribly inappropriate and stop in horror as your realization of the disconnect between mouth and brain becomes apparent. Well, I didn't do anything quite that bad. In fact, not at all that bad. But, I do keep changing my mind on stories that I am writing, resulting in massive re-writes. If it was a drabble, or even a smaller story of 2000-6000 words, no big deal. But the big ones with major re-do work...whatever am I thinking!?! Nonetheless, I decided to change the POV on my AinA story yesterday, and after working on it for more than six hours, I made my way through to page 17. Only ten more pages to revise before I can pick back up with writing the rest of the story. Geez! It's not as if I don't have other stories waiting in the pipeline to be written. I can't spend my entire lifetime on a single one. Somebody kick me please.....

( there is always more to a day...read on for the rest of the story )

comments

This evening we celebrate Litha, the mid-summer Solstice, and it feels like summer with a heat wave throughout the US today. People are flocking to the beach and lakes, air conditioners are running causing selective power brown outs, and movie theatres and shopping centers are crowded with people escaping the heat. It's not too bad here, but it is hot and since today is my day off, I'll be without any air conditioning for the day. Maybe I'll lose some weight through sweating?
So, I have to wish a Happy Hanukkah to those of my friends who walk that Path. When I was young, we would all go over to Tante Gerty's home and light the menorah. I gather, from other blogs, that it is not called a menorah any more, but old habits of more than 40 years die hard. I don't think I'll be changing this. I have two menorahs that I brought back after Mom died, along with her mezuzzah which I have by my door. I may not light the candles any more, but I am still a spiritual person, just walking a parallel pathway.

( Celebrate )

comments

As I said yesterday, the first batch of my Holiday Cards will go out on Wednesday. That means I have to address the envelopes today so I'll be working on that on and off throughout the day. I usually type the addresses, but I think I'll actually hand-write them this time.
So today is my day off - my studio day. It's the 7th of December, and I've received the first of my Holiday Cards from people on my f-list (Thanks, Silver Trails!!!). That means that I will be working like crazy on things today. I need to finish this repair because I want to have it available for her to pick up on Friday, and I need to do the interior of my cards and determine what, exactly, I want to do for the exterior. I can do some work on them tomorrow also, because I'm taking a second day off then. But, tomorrow is tomorrow and I'll discuss it then.

( movies and RIP Darrell K Sweet below )

comments

Of all the things I love best about Solstice time, I love Santa Claus. He has gotten a bit too tied up with the commercial aspect of the holiday, but who can turn their back on this jolly, immortal being with the infectious laugh and the bright smile? Even though children often freak out when they are finally close to him to tell him their holiday wishes, as an adult, I wish I had that opportunity again. Just to sit on the lap of someone who actually knows everything and has an arm around you buffering you from the world at large, it sounds so wonderful.

comments

I finally have decided what I am making for smaller holiday gifts. They aren't as elaborate as last year's beaded holiday stars, but still are taking longer to make than I had originally intended. I wanted something that would take about an hour, maybe two hours to make, but these are closer to 3-4 hours. But, that's still better than the 8+ hours that last year's stars took. Now I just need to fit some beading time into my writing and editing time.

comments

So the holidays are creeping up. Heck...they're not creeping up, they are rushing up. My bag of goodies purchased for DH is growing. I've been getting things for him over the past few months, and have one more gift to get at the hardware store when I get some time next week.
