So Chickie is taking the last of her vacation today (and yesterday afternoon) so I have to work hard. It's not that I don't work hard when she is on the sales floor, it is more that I know I have someone who covers my back without a specific request. At least most of the time. But when she's out of the shop (or when I'm out of the shop to be totally fair) we have to work harder. Although Jim can be a tremendous help and resource, his hearing loss is acute and interacting with customers is often an afterthought. If the store is crowded or if I'm really busy helping someone, it is annoying to have to specifically direct him to help a customer (two customers is one too many) when normally I would never have to ask. We're a retail store. We help customers. It's our JOB! Really? REALLY?

Old time mercantile stores were all about customer service.

On this day, in 1937, the world first read the words "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit." From that small beginning, first scrawled on the back of a page used for a different purpose, came books that have been a part of my life and the lives of millions of others. And as we get closer to the release of the movie, more and more people will be introduced to the unique vision and storytelling abilities of JRR Tolkien.

I had all of the best intentions for today...awaken at my usual time, run for a little while, settle down at the computer and answer my Emails and write my blog. Standard schedule. But...as you may (or may not) recall, I went to see "Brave" with Chickie last night. We had a great time at the movie, enjoyed it very much, although I'm not sure if I'll be purchasing this DVD for the future. I may just RedBox it for DH to look at later on. It was very enjoyable and worth staying through the credits to get the very last scene before the screen went black. But...

My foot is healing, but I think one more day of no running will be better for healing than stressing the skin just when it is trying to grow new skin. My dermatologist once told me that skin grows at the rate of 1mm in 24 hours, so I'm going to let the raw edges heal for one more day. Then I'm back to the treadmill...I promise (you and myself because those are the promises that really stick!).

I've been running every day for more than a week, and even though I wasn't all that crazy about running at 3:30 in the morning, I was being good and actually feeling better because of it. But then my body said "bad girl" and I couldn't do it today. I developed a blister on the ball of my foot yesterday which I am trying very hard to keep from getting infected. If I can't keep things under control I'll have to go to the clinic and get something to keep me from blood poisoning. *sigh* The bottom of a foot is just NOT the most clean spot of the entire body.... I am so NOT HAPPY.

I wish I could look back on Sunday and claim accomplishment. I wish I could state that I rewrote the story that's been giving me such problems in the revision stage. Or that I had started my detailed outline for my novel. Or that I had even seriously read books (although I certainly was reading for much of the day), or that I had disinfected my shower because that also was on my mental list of things to do. But no. As I look back on my Sunday, I did very little.

Mild movie spoiler below, but not really plot oriented, so you're probably safe reading on, and it's an old movie. )

Yesterday was a usual long Monday, starting by leaving the house at 6:00 am for my be-weekly chiropractor appointment which was SO needed. Of course that puts me behind, but my current story is going well and probably will be posted today and the one that I started yesterday I'm loving, although it will be a much longer than usual piece. I think I'm OK with that, because I love the way that it's coming together.

The movie last night was great fun, and we followed that up with dinner at Baker's Square (Asian Chicken Salad for me) and we all brought home pie for dessert. I paid for Chickie's dinner as part of her birthday gift, and because it was her birthday, her pie was free! Score!

I like starting my week on a high note, and I'm very up for the upcoming week because I got a lot done yesterday and already this morning. And I'll have a chance to see the sunrise again because we're back onto standard time. It's hard to argue with a positive attitude - LOL.

I had a wonderful Sunday. We woke up early and got ready to go to the little Gem & Mineral Show put on by the Minnesota Mineral Club. We had been watching "The Shining" the night before, but couldn't stay awake for the final 45 minutes. Fortunately, I caught them this morning, so I still got to see Jack Nickleson with the axe getting tricked by his kid in the maze and freezing to death. And all of the wonderful ghosts. I've been to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, where some of the movie was filmed. It also is haunted. Too much fun!

So Chickie, Chickie Mama and I went to see Kung Fu Panda 2 last night.  Although it was not as good as the original KFP, it still was a lot of fun to see.

Pics and Text Below the Cut... )
I bought a new blade holder yesterday and started cutting out the stencils and shields for the next coats on my Big Bang enamelwork, and I started drawing what I may offer as one of the chapter heading drawings.  I'm not as good with pen as I wish I was, so the chapter heads may, or may not, actually happen.  My author did send me the third chapter and outlines for the remaining chapters last night so that I could work on them if I want.  I'm still not sure if he'll like my direction, but it's the way that I'm going and there is no time to look backwards, only forwards.

Here is the final banner that I made.  This one is for my short drabble (a 100-word story) called "Survival of the Fittest".  I was very pleased with the story when it came together and it is wonderful that others also liked it enough to nominate it.  So far the stories that I've wanted to nominate have already been nominated, so I'm happy and I'll just have to remember to find time to review them when that aspect of the awards opens up.  Have a wonderfully creative day!
