An online friend posted a question the other day that got me thinking. When you write a story, who do you write for? Are you writing just for you? Are you writing for your reading audience? If you are writing for yourself, then why bother posting at all? But if you are writing for an audience, who comprises that audience? Good questions.

It's crazy...or I'm crazy...or maybe a combination of the both. Questions are plaguing me this morning.

Whatever made me think that I actually had a plot lying in this vision?
How and more importantly WHY do these two get together?
Come on already, girl. Whatever made you think you had a novel in you let alone a novel in this storyline?
What was I thinking when I signed up for NaNoWriMo?

As you can tell, second week doubts and walls are hitting me early *sigh*. I always was precocious.
My maps are mounted and marked. Take a look... )

We've had some wonderful temperatures, 60's to 70's (18-23 C)during the day and 40's (7 C) overnight. But a change is coming quickly and starting tomorrow our highs will be upper 40's. I don't think I'm really ready for colder temps, although I have been wearing my leather jacket for a few days now. My ideal temps are highs in the 70's and lows in the 40's, so it's been just about perfect lately. But...I live in the snowbelt and winter will come whether I want it to or not.

Wednesdays are my usual day off. But, since Chickie is communing with mountain goats in the wilds of Montana (or relatives and friends in the wilds of Montana who may bear striking resemblance to the aforementioned mountain goats), I have to work for her all week. *sigh* I have fic to finish, a request from Lai to send on, my AinA to finish the final edits on, and the MPTT Anniversary story to complete (which is quite close to being done) and I have no time to do it. At the shop, without Chickie to help out, I end up standing ALL DAY and I don't get any time to drop by my laptop at all (or have my weekly chat-fest with Aearwen). Growl.... So, my schedule is crap for the week!

Today is Bloomsday. OK, some of you are scratching your heads and maybe even checking your calendars seeing that there is no Bloomsday referenced on the calendar page. But, nonetheless, it is Bloomsday. Bloomsday celebrates the day that the protagonist of James Joyce's "Ulysses" is set. It is also the day when the author, James Joyce, met his future wife Nora Barnacle. Now I don't know if you're a fan of Joyce or even if you have ever read the book "Ulysses", but any good excuse for a party, right? It is celebrated world-wide. So, why not take a bit of time and raise a glass to James Joyce.

I'm going to start out by wishing my country, the USA, a Happy Flag Day. On this date in 1777 the "Stars and Stripes" were officially adopted as the flag of our nation. Through good times and bad, good decisions and very questionable ones, this flag has flown proudly. The US may or may not be the best nation on earth in your view. All I know is that I am pleased to be living here and consider myself lucky that I was able to.

So, on to more mundane things. )

The Ides of March with Caesar's assassination has nothing on April 15th, but the events of the 15th were staged on the 14th. Within fifty years of each other, two major events happened that still reverberate now, a century or more later. One was the death of a single person, the other the deaths of more than 1500, but each still echo. So let's walk through history for a little while today.

I got the most beautiful postcard in the mail yesterday. An on-line friend (and totally amazing person) Dawn, had been going on a quick trip to England and Scotland with her husband Bobby. She always asks if people want postcards, and she is totally serious. I have gotten beauties from her vacations in the past. I asked for a postcard with a castle (I know there are a lot of castles in Scotland) and the card she sent me had three! And they are all fantastically beautiful! It made me smile all day.

For those of my friends outside the US, the big hum this past week has been one of the large National lotteries called MegaMillions which had an estimated jackpot of $640 Million dollars - yes, that's Million. Some locations selling the lottery tickets had long lines. I maybe buy a ticket a year - I don't really do anything with these, but DH gave me $5 to go and buy some chances, so I did. Well, I didn't win - I was so far from winning that the sheet with the numbers is sitting on my desk laughing at me. DH said he didn't win either. So, I guess we have to continue working for our money and our retirement, just like most people. Oh well....

Did I win? No. But car and writing update are below the cut )

Today is the birthday of two very important and vitally different people who followed their dreams and changed the world. The first person is Steve Jobs. Love him or hate him, you can't dispute his very prevelant presence over our everyday modern life. From Apple computers to the iPods in your pocket to iTunes and features of the cloud, Steve Jobs made an impact in so many aspects of our modern life that his ripples reached throughout the earth.

I hereby condem my poor, sick DH to solitary confinement until he is over this cold/flu/whatever crud he has. He still feels horrid. I banned him from working yesterday, giving up my day off to work for him. I also am banning him from work today *sigh*. We miss cuddling. There is something comforting and relaxing to have his arm around me while my head is on his shoulder. Right now we're staying several feet apart at all times to try and ensure that I don't catch this crud. I'm skating on the edge of catching this and I really can't afford the time to indulge in sickness. Neither of us are sleeping well. THIS HAS TO STOP! Gods/goddesses of health, how about dropping by my house - LOL.

So, last week is just better off behind me. I had a sick husband, had to work an extra day, and ticked off friends who really mean a lot to me. Basically, it was horrendus, I owe apologies to lots of people, and I'm just looking at today as an opportunity to start again - sorely needed.

What a week. With my poor DH down with diverticulitis and, after beginning to heal from that, coming down with the beginnings of the flu, it's been unbelievable stressful and I've had to work a six-day week. On the writing front, I finished and turned in a LOTR Community story, I'm almost finished with my SV story, and I did another drabble - this time to address the word "borrow". My first attempt was dismal and I pulled it the next day. My second attempt moved it's scope over to one of my more familiar playgrounds - Ost-in-Edhel and the admittance of Annatar into the Gwaith-i-Mirdain. This version I was pleased with and put it up for concrit. Changes suggested were looked at and, if I felt they were consistent with my inner view of the scene, were incorporated.

I usually don't care about what day it is, but Monday was a ton of work and I was just exhausted by the end of it, leaving my temper tied by a hairstring. So when my DH came down at 9pm and my most recent story was refusing to post properly, I was LESS than happy, leading to unhappy people and a DH who dropped the D from his designation for the remainder of the day. He usually will sulk for a few days, so I can make an expectation that he will be pissy about my poor mood for most of the remainder of the week *sigh*.

We all could use some Thanks giving in our lives. Because it never hurts to look back over the blessings that we have received and the kindnesses that we have been able to pass on to others.

I should actually head this as early Christmas gift, since it is from my DH and he celebrates Christmas. But he will buy me the glass saw that I've been wanting, the one piece of equipment that I found, while working on my projects this year, that I really needed. So, he told me to go ahead and order it and he woud pay for it.

Well, yesterday certainly didn't go as planned. Instead of a day off, my Manager phoned me at 8:30 am telling me he was up all night vomiting and was running a fever. So, he got the day off and I worked for him. I'll be working for him again today and will hopefully get my day off on Friday.

I actually got a lot done yesterday. I finished up my "Feast" story, now I need to get a quick beta on it, but that's not a problem. I did get some work done on my repair, although not as much as I had hoped. I got a chapter done for my writing friend in Germany, and did my errands, etc.
