Ouch! I knew my car would be expensive, after all, she's almost at 100,000 miles and I wanted to get a thorough breakdown, repair and refit done so that she would be good for another 50,000-100,000 miles (with regular upkeep). But what I had hoped would be only $1100 turned into $1700. I'll be paying for this for the rest of the year *sigh*. I get a small monthly amount from my Mom's estate which has to spread pretty far, and even though I can handle emergency expenses like this, it's never easy. But I now have a car with safe tires, safe brakes, a new water pump, new belts, hoses and seals, and hopefully the last of the big repair bills for several years.

Yesterday morning I was optimistic about things having turned around and being able to focus on crafting for a while again. I had stories in the works, artwork ready to be crafted, Bead & Button classes registered for, I was reading happily each morning, listening to an audio book in "spare" moments, and LOTRO was plugging along. DH was even feeling better. Everything was looking good.

I did get quite a lot done yesterday on my "extra" day off. I finally finished a repair that I accepted in October. I had given an original due date of Thanksgiving, and obviously ran late from that, but after three more hours of work on it and some late night finishing work, it is finally complete and ready to be returned.

Obviously my body is squirrely - it has no idea that people are supposed to be sleeping at 2am, especially when I only went to sleep at 10:15pm - not very many hours previously. But I tossed and turned for 15 minutes upstairs, then went downstairs to see if changing to the couch would let me get another hour of sleep. No go! So, I'm operating on four hours today and I know I'll regret this BIG TIME by the end of the day. Crazy.

I'm always happy to have my studio day, a day when I can work on my own projects. Today, however, will be an extremely busy one. I have a list of errands that will take me all over town, the repair I started last week still has hours of work remaining on it, and I want to get my Solstice cards designed. Come to think of it...I've wanted to do that for the past two weeks so it has to move a bit higher on the list, I'm running out of time.

I wish we lived in a place with good public transportation.  That was one of the things that I dearly loved about London, with the tube and busses, it was easy to get almost anywhere.

My Cruiser is a bit more tricked out with chrome
but the color is right.  I love my Cruiser.

I had started my year by getting tires ($300+) then came the big repair - my brakes and suspension.  They did a terrific job, but the cost...I'll be paying this one down for a long time ($2000+).  Now, I had my regular chiropracter appointment yesterday morning (every two weeks Dr Pat helps me feel younger - great guy!) and when I started my car again, I had the "check engine" light on.  This spooked me.  I've never had one of these come on for me before.  Like an idiot I took Grape to the dealer.  They fixed it, but it really should have been at least $100 less than the $350 it cost me this time.  Jeez, if I didn't love my car so much...

My DH drives a Saturn like this, my mother's
car that I inherited when she died.  DH has
never owned a new car in his life - sad :-(

But, while my car was being worked on, I had to share my DH's car.  That meant I dropped him back off, went to the shop and did a little bit of work, then drove back home to pick him up, then went back to work.  His car, my mother's old Saturn, is starting to have transmission problems.  If/when that goes, it will be another multi-thousand dollar bill.  So we're walking carefully around his car, and still looking for a new truck.

So today at 7am I drop my car off to get the brakes redone, the alignment taken care of and something to do with a shock absorber.  I'm not going to enjoy putting this on my credit card, that's for sure, but it's the only option I've got since I don't have the money for this repair any other way.

I love Escher's work.  Every time I look at it, I think of my
friend Seth, who gave me a book of Escher's work many years ago.

Because I had to go back to the shop at 4 yesterday afternoon, I didn't get as much done as I wanted.  But I did work a bit on the illustrations for Darth's Big Bang story.  I'm still trying to get things pinned down before I start the actual work and I'm still trying to pin down what media I want to use for this.  I only need to produce a single illustration to meet my contract, but who knows?  Have a creative day today...I'm already running late and it's only 4:30 am.
