So my errands list got mostly completed. I wasn't able to trim the trees at the small house because it was raining and I didn't get my eyeglasses ordered (that was bad, but I still have to save up a bit more money before I order those). I did get five loads of laundry done, finished reading "The Catch Trap" and bought all of my State Fair tickets and coupon books in preparation for Sharon's visit on the 30th. Aearwen and I had a lovely, if shortened, conversation and I spent more than an hour deciding which exercises I wanted to concentrate on with the BowFlex as well as running through them once to make sure I understood how to hold my hands, what arm or body motions I needed to do, etc. Now I'm alternating my days between the treadmill and the BowFlex. It will take me longer to reach Rivendell, but I'll be in better physical condition - LOL.

Ouch! I knew my car would be expensive, after all, she's almost at 100,000 miles and I wanted to get a thorough breakdown, repair and refit done so that she would be good for another 50,000-100,000 miles (with regular upkeep). But what I had hoped would be only $1100 turned into $1700. I'll be paying for this for the rest of the year *sigh*. I get a small monthly amount from my Mom's estate which has to spread pretty far, and even though I can handle emergency expenses like this, it's never easy. But I now have a car with safe tires, safe brakes, a new water pump, new belts, hoses and seals, and hopefully the last of the big repair bills for several years.

Actually, I'm sharpening my artistic skills because they are being pulled in to play now. I am still working on my LOTR Community Art Challenge (I'm WAY late with this, but knew I would be and was assured by the moderator that late was OK). I did get some work done on it yesterday, now I'm into the coloring and painting section - crossing my fingers because I can really ruin it now - LOL.

I actually printed out the supply lists for my classes next week.  Now I just have to actually read them and pack accordingly.

Pics and text below the cut... )

Yesterday I bought the Blu-Ray extended edition DVD's of Lord of the Rings.  Actually, my DH bought them because he will be writing me a check to pay for them.  EXPENSIVE!!!  But of course, with three hours of addtional "stuff" I had to get them.  Addict?  Moi?  I also noticed that I get digital download rights for a year with this, and I will certainly take advantage of that!  I also bought a couple of light-weight short-sleeved shirts for the shop because I only have a single one that's in wearable condition.  Wearable is highly recommended - LOL.  I also pre-ordered the DVD for Game of Thrones, another thing that DH is paying for.  I still don't know when it will be released, but I'll have it coming to me when it is.  With my Barnes & Noble membership discount and free shipping, the price was great!

I wanted to get to Barnes & Noble yesterday to buy a copy of Empire.  The current issue has Gandalf and Bilbo on the cover and goes into some detail about the making of the Hobbit movie.  Unfortunately, my time simply didn't allow for the trip.  But I got a lot done yesterday.  I had a 40% off coupon for Dick Blick and ended up buying a bright red irredescent paint for use with air brush.  I have been wanting to do a lacquer-type finish on one of my boxes for more than a year.  So I'll sand one of them down and start playing.  I really enjoyed playing with the airbrush for my Big Bang picture which I will show all of you more towards the end of the month.  I want to play some more with the airbrush and explore some additional possibilities.  Fun!

 I'm running late and it's only 5:30 am.  That's A.M.!  Oy!

Story below the cut... )
I have to go to my new accountant today and drop off our paperwork so that he can set up our account.  I'll have him file extensions for our 5500's to give us a bit more time to breathe and so that he can become familiar with our paperwork.  But I have a few questions, so I hope he can fit me into a 15 minute gap in his schedule today.  I'll be doing laundry, of course, and I should start packing for my conference that I leave for on Sunday morning.  There is Le Tour de France to watch and Iris' latest story to finish beta work on, and I have at least one story to post to my various archives.  I hope to grab some breakfast and I need Jim's check (paying me back for purchases and giving me a small amount for the conference expenses).  He can write it to me tonight and I'll still have time to deal with it, but not much later.  I have to go to the post office and the bank and.....whew!  I'm exhausted just reading through my schedule.  At least the heat broke (for a short time) with a rainstorm last night, so I finally got one decent night's sleep.  Finally!  Have a productive day.

So after more than two hours of frustrated work to get the lettering onto my Big Bang collage, I finally succeeded in exactly what I wanted.  I may still go over the lettering with my wood burner, but I'll test that out with my signature panel on the back of the piece first.

Banner and more below the cut... )
The central image is an antique ivory comb that was
heavily carved in the center.  It's a stunning piece!

Yesterday I thought I would work up some userpics and banners for my Middle Earth Fan Fiction award nominees, and noticed that I had been nominated for a sixth story.  Yippee!  I'm so incredibly honored and just floored that anyone would find my writings moving enough to nominate.  Thrilled doesn't even begin to describe my feelings.  So I worked up a banner for Morning Song shown above.  I'm still working on my user pics for my LJ pages.  So, I'm doubly happy.  Unfortunately, I'm looking at four days in a row of work, definitely a downer.  But...I've got good books to read on my NookColor, good coffee and oatmeal for the morning, and only the chapter headings still to draw for my Big Bang things (and those are bonus, not required), so all is well.  Now to get beading on my BFAC piece for the year...

So my father-by-marriage has eye surgery tomorrow and my DH and I have flipped days off this week.

Calming pic and text below the cut... )
I searched for something calm to look at for today's picture and this is
what I found.  Isn't this just wonderful?  I wish I was there right now!

Today I want to complete my enamel collage for Big Bang.  I mounted the enamel to the backing yesterday morning.  When I look at it, I'm pleased, so that's what is important.  I want to darken the screws by painting them today, as well as finish the collage portion and cut out the fancy lettering using my Silhouette machine.  Then I just need to photograph it and send it in to the mods.  If I can get this completed, I can work on my beadwork for the rest of the week (starting to run tight on time on that project) and make charms for the conference next week on the 6th, my last studio day before leaving for MCWC.  Oy!    I hope you day is a bit less hectic than mine is right now :-)

I'm not 100% finished with my Big Bang illustration, but darned close.

Progress detailed below... )
After the enameling was complete, we went to the mall to exchange the father's day gift that DH had purchased.  The shirts were the wrong size.  So we upgraded them to the next size - fortunately both styles had an XL still available.  Then we walked through the mall to Chipotle for dinner.  I love the food there, but their ordering is confusing.  I think we both managed to get what we wanted though.  I had to keep interrupting to repeat things to DH who couldn't hear the questions that the server was asking him.

Maybe I would paint more often if my pallete was made from cupcakes?

Then back home and I continued work on the BB illustration by doing the painting and some of the application of the collage items.  That went on until 7pm or so, when I finally cleaned up a bit and went on to LOTRO to start working towards getting my summer horses.  I'll have to continue work on that tonight - I'm WAY behind DH who already has gotten horses for most of his characters.  Have a wonderful beginning to your week!

I wrote earlier about the robins who built a nest on top of the light next to my front door.

On Wednesday I was driving home to dive into my artwork for the day (I actually accomplished a lot that day - fun, fun, fun) when I came up a small hill to find traffic stopped while two Canada Goose parents and their long-legged offspring crossed the road.  They looked so funny, and the goslings were all leg topped by fluff.  They successfully stopped four lanes of traffic while they crossed.

And I got to the next stage in my Big Bang artwork.  I did one chapter heading and my DH said he will try and give me all of Sunday for my enamel work.  That would help a lot because I have a lot of persnickety work to do.  I have all of the various stencils cut out and think that three or four separate firings might do it, but I'll know more after the day is up because there is a lot that I may still need to do to polish things off.  I know that I nave a lot of glue work to do, followed by a clearcoat.  Since I cut one extra part, I can test the clearcoat out on that first.  I also did the text for my Silhouette and I'll set that up and get those letters cut out for application on Tuesday (I had to switch studio days from Wednesday to Tuesday next week).  Using that equipment always takes a bit longer than I originally think it will :-)  Have a great weekend!

So the state of Arizona is experiencing the largest wildfire in the state's history centered around Springerville, AZ.  Springerville is west of Phoenix, close to the New Mexican border, and in 1977, I worked an archaeological dig in that general area.

Pics and text below the cut... )

I have four story promts staring me in the face, and none of them are working for me.  Of course, that doesn't make any difference since it is the challenge of making the words work for the challenge, rather than making a challenge fit my personal storylines, but I have so many other things going on right now, I am a bit reluctant to dive into some of these.  I'll see what I can do this morning, but I also want to progress on my artwork for Darth's story which is coming together in my head and in real life.  If it all comes together, it will be a new focus for my multimedia artwork...rather fun.  My deadline is quickly approaching and I will have at least two days available for some intensive enamel work, so I think I'll be able to pull this off :-)

So, with lists in hand, I will be getting my packing completed for Bead & Button Show today.  Considering I'm leaving on Saturday morning, it's probably about time - LOL.

Obviously these aren't human eyes, but aren't they a glorious
blue in this sweet, kitty face?  I just thought they would be
more fun to look at today :-)

My father-by-marriage returns to the eye doctor today to get his eye checked up.  This is the eye that he had surgery on a few months ago.  He wants to get the next eye scheduled, so now we are working with his doctor and within our vacation schedules to make sure that we can have someone available to drive him to the surgery and back, etc.  Since summer is when all of us take vacations, and since those are all out of town and already set, we have few open times.  I feel as if I am tapdancing in a mine field *sigh*.  Have an awesome day!

I get two days of vacation in a row off so rarely, but because of the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, I actually get Sunday and Monday off.

Then, at the end of next week, I leave for the Bead & Button Show - a chance to see old friends and meet new ones.  I have projects that I will bring with me, mainly my Beading For A Cure piece and my sketchbook for the illustrations for my LOTR Big Bang story.  Things are starting to come together in my head for both projects and I need some computer art time for my Big Bang illustrations.  My heavy class days will be the beginning days - Sunday through Wednesday.  Thursday is mostly open, Friday has a few things scheduled, but is mostly open, and Saturday has a breakfast and then I check out and leave.  I know I won't get as much done as I really want/need to, but I'm going to try my best to really get something accomplished on both of my major projects.  After all, the clock is ticking.

Of course, in order to leave, I actually need to pack, and I haven't started that yet.  I'll start getting my things together on Wednesday, but I'm also thinking about what, if any, tools I need to buy for the trip.  Money, after the expensive car repair bill, is quite tight, and every tool has to be justified six ways from Sunday.  So I'm looking over the class supply lists and determining what items I already own, what items I will get extended use from, and what I might be able to borrow from other students in the class or that the teacher may have available for us to use.  I don't think I'll need to buy much, maybe only a single hammer.  Or maybe I already have everything which would make me very happy.  At least I'm finally thinking about this instead of just throwing things into a suitcase on Friday night - LOL.

I'm focused on my schedule for the next two weeks until I leave for Bead & Button Show and...I'm out of time.

More Below the Cut... )
I have stories to write, of course, but I also have artwork to produce for Big Bang.  At the time that Big Bang was accepting signups, I wasn't writing at all, and even now the thought of that many words is not necessarily something I would like to do.  So, after showing the moderators the types of art I do, I was accepted to sign up for the artwork aspect.  That means that I illustrate or depict one author's text in at least a single image, multiples are my own choice.  I was assigned someone whose work I am already familiar with and I am so pleased with the pairing.  I have begun to work on preliminary sketches, but I'm trying to figure out what media I want to work in and just got my timeframes and sizes from the moderators.  I'll be working on this during some of my off time during the B&B Show, since I have two days where I have free time available.  So, in my current life, everything revolves around my upcoming trip to Milwaukee.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my friend Esteliel.  For several years now, you have totally rocked my world and I hope you have a fantastic year ahead of you.
