There are some interesting benefits to signing up for NaNoWriMo, one of which is the opportunity to test-drive some writing software and, if I like it, to purchase it after November at a reduced price. I had already been checking out a trial version of Scrivner, which I liked but which had a steep learning curve for me. (I'm just a writer, usually using MS Word or Open Office to put my words to screen, not really setting up larger pieces.) After reading through many of the offerings that would work on a non-Apple PC, I decided to download and try a program called WriteWay. Now I'm playing with the program to get used to it before November 1st.

I'm backlogged - totally under water. I got a BINGO in 2nd place yesterday with the B-14 call, but I'm still writing/researching the story because I just don't know enough about the specifics of the timeframe. I'll have it nailed and posted by tonight, then a short one to finish up that number. Yesterday night's number is also going to require some research. That's what I'm really enjoying about B2ME this year, though. Instead of just being things that are springing from my own head, they are actually based in history and I love doing historical research.

My quiet time is the early morning. I get up at 3:30 am to have 2-1/2 hours of quiet, uninterrupted time to catch up with the national and local news and the stock market. I read my emails, respond to product information requests, and write my daily blog. Easy, right? Not today.

Normally my Mondays can be a bit laid back, but not today. I have four large mail orders that got placed over the weekend that will keep me hopping today, I have a new prompt for a drabble for the week, one which may allow me to combine last week's with this one...maybe... And I want to continue revising my longer story and get that handed in, hopefully by the end of the month. When I look at the week, I want to crawl under a rock. Unfortunately, that's a luxury I simply don't have.

I hereby condem my poor, sick DH to solitary confinement until he is over this cold/flu/whatever crud he has. He still feels horrid. I banned him from working yesterday, giving up my day off to work for him. I also am banning him from work today *sigh*. We miss cuddling. There is something comforting and relaxing to have his arm around me while my head is on his shoulder. Right now we're staying several feet apart at all times to try and ensure that I don't catch this crud. I'm skating on the edge of catching this and I really can't afford the time to indulge in sickness. Neither of us are sleeping well. THIS HAS TO STOP! Gods/goddesses of health, how about dropping by my house - LOL.

I have a day off today, so I might get a chance to get my illustration done for the LOTR Community Art Challenge, I need to do some samples for my upcoming lecture, and I want to rewrite the drabble I was discussing yesterday and see if I can be happier with it.

So, last week is just better off behind me. I had a sick husband, had to work an extra day, and ticked off friends who really mean a lot to me. Basically, it was horrendus, I owe apologies to lots of people, and I'm just looking at today as an opportunity to start again - sorely needed.

So, my DH has been complaining that I spend too much time at my computer and not enough time with him. He wants me to cut down on my writing. But I really need to start my Beta work for my friend again (I've been VERY bad and hadn't touched her stuff since before the holiday), I've got Slashy Valentine and LOTR Community Challenge, the new ALEC just came through this morning, I have my weekly drabble for Tolkien Weekly, and LOTR Community also decided to do an art challenge that is intriguing me. Time...I have a feeling it is not my friend.

Christmas was hectic and a bit stumbly, but it turned out all right in the end. I woke about 8am, even though I wanted to sleep in, and went down to make out certificates for part of my DH’s Christmas gifts. Mine usually consist of admissions to various cultural events or museum exhibits, the ones that he gives to me usually consist of $20 for a DVD or book, the annual “extra day off” and his usual annual Uncrab certificate – highly valued.

Why was it a mixed bag? )

I always start the week out optimistically, this is no exception. Last week my DH was sick for two days and that really threw a wrench into my schedule. But this week I should be back onto a normal schedule and that will make me happy.

It's the end of July.  My BFF Sharon comes to visit on the 1st of September.  Sometime between now and then I have to get my house clean!  This has now become a HIGH PRIORITY ITEM and may push artwork into the background for a while (bummer).

Text and pic below the cut... )

So, I'll have to devote several of my studio days, and probably some nights when I usually beta or work on my own writing to cleaning.  The bathroom needs to be scrubbed down totally.  I need to replace a leaking feed pipe to the toilet in Sharon's bathroom, and I need to clean the living room and finally finish cleaning up the den (which is a total mess from last year's flood - yes....I know....last year -sigh-).  But, this will have to become high priority because I refuse to let it go for much longer.  So....I pulled out of BFAC, I am not accepting text or illustration for the next Big Bang which would take place in the fall and have a February total due date, I didn't accept Ardor in August writing assignment and I may not accept Slashy Santa unless things really start to get cleaned up here.  So very frustrating to have to give up studio time, but it's the only time I have off by myself where I won't get interrupted.

Now...off to my shower and then, to breakfast before I begin photography at the shop.  Or, maybe I'll write some more instead....hmmmmm......decisions, decisions :-)

I'm focused on my schedule for the next two weeks until I leave for Bead & Button Show and...I'm out of time.

More Below the Cut... )
I have stories to write, of course, but I also have artwork to produce for Big Bang.  At the time that Big Bang was accepting signups, I wasn't writing at all, and even now the thought of that many words is not necessarily something I would like to do.  So, after showing the moderators the types of art I do, I was accepted to sign up for the artwork aspect.  That means that I illustrate or depict one author's text in at least a single image, multiples are my own choice.  I was assigned someone whose work I am already familiar with and I am so pleased with the pairing.  I have begun to work on preliminary sketches, but I'm trying to figure out what media I want to work in and just got my timeframes and sizes from the moderators.  I'll be working on this during some of my off time during the B&B Show, since I have two days where I have free time available.  So, in my current life, everything revolves around my upcoming trip to Milwaukee.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my friend Esteliel.  For several years now, you have totally rocked my world and I hope you have a fantastic year ahead of you.

So, as I was going to sleep last night, President Obama was going to come on and speak to the public about the death of Osama Bin Laden. People are cheering in the streets, the news channels seem to have nothing else to discuss, and apparently the entire world has focused on just this, nothing else, for years.

Monday ramblings continued... )
We had an amber alert last night for a small 7-year-old little girl who was abducted from a coin laundry and had been seen walking away with a man approximately 50 years of age. Fortunately, this one had good results. The young girl was found 90 minutes later, unharmed, but many miles away from where she was abducted.

So we start Monday out evenly - one person lost his life, one person didn't, a grown man was slain and a child was saved. I don't regret either part of this Monday. Have a safe and creative day.
