Well, the US is settling into a waiting game. Hurricane Sandy will hit the East Coast tonight probably somewhere in New Jersey. That will effectively shut down New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Virginia and other nearby states, many of them for days. It's a huge storm combining with a full moon for maximal storm surges and they are saying that snow and ice will accompany rain far into the interior of the nation. I have a lot of on-line friends and acquaintances who live in the impacted areas and all I can do is pray that they will pass through this unscathed, warm, dry, and safe. My thoughts are with all of you.

The power of the ocean is amazing.

I was restless last night, so went back down to my computer and got in at least a half hour of writing on my Ardor in August story. The characters are taking me in directions unforeseen, as often happens, but I think it will work out well. Right now, though, well...it's a tough time for the main characters. I'll have to see where today's work takes me. I'm in the mood to share baby animal pics today even though they have nothing to do with what I'm discussing below. Oh well, the pics don't always have to match the words...it's a blog - LOL.

Today is my studio day and I have my usual long list of things that I want to try and get done. I need to do the budget that I mentioned yesterday - no way around it this time, it has to get done. I will talk with my friend in California late this afternoon, something that I look forward to every week. I would like to phone my friend's widow and find out how she's doing, it's been about two weeks since I last spoke with her, but I can't spare the time for lunch with her today. Maybe I can schedule something for next week. I'm almost finished with a complete "throw everything out except the premise" rewrite of one of my B2ME stories. When I finish this I can add it to my queue for that particular story-line which will leave me with a single story to review before beginning to post this group.

Why is my life crazy? No question - it's all down to time management. )

In three weeks I leave for the Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee for a short visit. In two weeks Chickie takes a week of vacation. In the two weeks of "open" time when everyone is in town we have to get doctor appointments scheduled, eye doctor appointments, chiropractic appointments, and we still have to actually work. But who wants to work? I'd rather spend my time writing and/or reading. So...

I have so much to do today. I did get two items finished yesterday, one of the last two B2ME stories and my poem for LOTR Community which will be revealed on the 16th. I have one last B2ME story to write, a drabble for the week, and I MUST edit some things for Iris (I have a large note on my desk so that I don't forget).

There is never enough time on my day off to get everything I need completed finished in a timely fashion. But, I did accomplish a lot. I will be re-reading the stories I wrote and editing them again, and I hope to post some this morning or certainly by tonight. I have stories dealing with a variety of items experienced by Feanaro's family while on a picnic near the shore, an examination of the meeting of Caranthir and Haleth, a story about Fingolfin's sword Ringil and one about Maglor and the Battle of Hastings. That leaves me with editing the four listed above and then I can write the one I was assigned last night. B2ME is wrapping up and I'm really happy about that. It's been one hell of a ride.

No post yesterday, I was running too late. I had an art project due which I got up at 3am to do. I finished the project, but had to leave at 6am for the Chiropractor and ended up just running too late to make a post. Shame on me. I rarely miss posting six days a week if I’m home.

My quiet time is the early morning. I get up at 3:30 am to have 2-1/2 hours of quiet, uninterrupted time to catch up with the national and local news and the stock market. I read my emails, respond to product information requests, and write my daily blog. Easy, right? Not today.

March is a busy, busy month. One of the things that I am participating in again is what's called "Back 2 Middle Earth" of B2ME month. What we are doing this year is Bingo. Many cards were designed to give prompts for writing or artwork and each participant chose one or several or a lot of cards to play for the month. I was quite restrained and only chose eight cards. I have friends who chose many, many more than that. But if I get a number called that appears on several cards, I have my work cut out for me.

Assignments - So DH says to me last night as I was looking carefully through Spectrum 18 (one of my happy things to do - LOL) that he wants assignments. "Assignments?" I query in return. "What do you mean? Do you want prompts for writing, a goal for artwork, a media in which to produce something, a deadline to meet? What kind of assignments?" "Yes" was his response - LOL.

So, today is supposed to be my day off. Unfortunately, my Manager has come down with diverticulitis and asked me to work for him today. I'll get my day off later in the week...but my schedule is all scrammed up today.

I'm feeling much better about my lack of time management skills. I got my Potluck piece completed, and my beta chapter for my friend is complete and now posted, I'll work on her next one tonight for a while. My SV piece is actually progressing well, and I'm keeping the focus and request of the person I'm writing it for firmly in mind this time. The second revision is much better all around, so I'm not regretting this at all. I'll have to check other things pending and see what else I feel like doing. Read more... )

So, my DH has been complaining that I spend too much time at my computer and not enough time with him. He wants me to cut down on my writing. But I really need to start my Beta work for my friend again (I've been VERY bad and hadn't touched her stuff since before the holiday), I've got Slashy Valentine and LOTR Community Challenge, the new ALEC just came through this morning, I have my weekly drabble for Tolkien Weekly, and LOTR Community also decided to do an art challenge that is intriguing me. Time...I have a feeling it is not my friend.

Well, today is the 19th. Solstice is creeping up quickly, Hannukah begins mid-week, and Christmas Day is seven days away. Are you ready for your holiday of choice?

I finally have decided what I am making for smaller holiday gifts. They aren't as elaborate as last year's beaded holiday stars, but still are taking longer to make than I had originally intended. I wanted something that would take about an hour, maybe two hours to make, but these are closer to 3-4 hours. But, that's still better than the 8+ hours that last year's stars took. Now I just need to fit some beading time into my writing and editing time.

I have no idea how many people will be showing up at my sister-in-law's for Turkey Day dinner. The maximum number could be: (1) my sister-in-law (2&3) my DH and myself (4) my father-in-law

it's a big family.  How big?  Read on... )

So I was able to get my clothes together, as well as my metalworking supplies, beading supplies, and sketching/painting supplies.  I haven't actually put things into the suitcase(s) yet, I'll start to do that tonight.

Yesterday had its' share of frustrations, though.  Mostly centered around my father-by-marriage.  His electricity was completed yesterday, and he went to church at 3pm, telling my DH and the electrician that he would be back by 6:30 pm so that he could write the check and pay the bill.  My DH dropped by the house on the way home from work, but my FBM wasn't there.  Church is less than 1/2 mile away from the house, and no matter how long-winded the dude may be, he's not going to talk for an afternoon service for three hours.  So, my DH waited for his Dad to get home, and waited until after 7pm.  He still had not shown up when my DH finally gave up and came home.  Things are starting to get bad.  Depending on what my father-by-marriage was doing out so late, it's starting to get to the point where my DH is talking about taking away his car keys (something that I think should have been done a few months ago).  But he did get the next eye surgery scheduled for the end of June, so now I have to set up appointments for his physical so that he can have his operation.  I'm starting to think that workshops for eight-plus hours a day will indeed be a vacation...
