I am finally catching up with hundreds of Emails and misc questions that I let lie while on my Labor Day vacation. But I have three stories to write and I'm not able to get back into a writing groove yet. I had to return most of my interlibrary loaned research materials for my NaNoWriMo book yesterday, although I still have one for another week, and I have deadlines breathing down my neck. But what do I do? I read. I'm hip deep in a book series on my Nook and re-reading a book on my new phone (reading it for the third time). Having the ability to read any of my NookBooks on my phone is probably not one of the best things - LOL. But it is one thing that is making me love my phone even more. I haven't figured out a comfortable way to write on my phone yet, and the screen is smaller than that of my Nook, but the darned phone is incredibly versatile. *sigh* It's worming its way into my heart.

It's Wednesday my "day off" and I have a list that will take me all over town, cost me lots of $ and keep me running all day long. I will be driving all over town, clipping rogue trees at the small house, buying all of my extra Renaissance Fest tickets for Chickie and Sharon (we all go out for one day together) and my less expensive pre-purchased admission tickets and Cheap-skate books for the State Fair. I need to make a doctor appointment for my DH, get some measurements on my eyes so that I can order new lenses for my eyeglasses, and call my accountant to make sure that an extension was filed for a tax return. I also want to drop by my broker's office (I've never visited there) to find out why I can't order checks for my savings/checking account and get some extra dollars transferred in. I need to renew my DH's car license and make an ear doctor appointment for him. And I have to continue cleaning my house - only fifteen days left until Sharon arrives and I want my house cleaned up. Whew!!! Too much to do!

What am I reading? I'm totally involved in....the circus! More below the cut )

Since I just wasted an hour of very precious early morning time searching for (and downloading) e-pub copies of "The Front Runner" and several other books that I'll transfer to my NookColor this weekend. I wanted to share my early mornings in spring/summer with all of you.

In the introduction to The Age of Fable, Bulfinch wrote: "Mythology is the handmaid of literature; and literature is one of the best allies of virtue and promoters of happiness."

I have advocated that reading equates to happiness for most of my life, at least since I was able to read. In the days of my youth, I always had a book in my hand. When my sight got worse, I just held the books closer, but they never went away. I had Lasik surgery in 2002 or 2003 (no, I don't remember the exact year...) and suddenly my eyes were better...and worse. For several years I had serious problems reading physical books for any length of time and I was devastated. That's when I discovered audio books and I listened to those for several years. But I missed physical books that weren't non-fiction. I missed my dragons and magic and swords.

I got LASIK in my right eye in 2001 and my final follow-up appointment for that was in 2002. But since then I haven't had my eyes examined. For several years I found reading to be very difficult and worked with audio books instead of written ones, but when I got my bifocals I read more, and when I got my NookColor I was back to my normal voracious reading habits. I'm very pleased about that. But as I increased my reading, my prescription for my glasses got more and more out of date. I've needed new glasses for quite a while and finally broke down and set up an appointment with my eye doctor for an exam. I have that today and I can start getting my glasses relensed with a new prescription soon. That will make me very happy! My eyeglass frames are unique and custom made, so I don't replace the glasses completely, rather I get new lenses for my frames instead.

Today is my final day of cat feeding/sitting, my friend returns home this afternoon and her cat will be happy again. I won't see my friend until Saturday when she returns to work, but I will be able to shred the "Kitty Care" schedule tonight.

I had a wonderful two days off. I read a lot, I wrote a little (probably should have done more of this, but that's how it happened to go) ate good food, and watched DVD's. Today will be cool again, so I will be comfortable at the shop today instead of wilting from the heat, and I need to start thinking seriously now about my trip to the Bead & Button Show next week because I leave in a week and have to be packed and ready to go.

In three weeks I leave for the Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee for a short visit. In two weeks Chickie takes a week of vacation. In the two weeks of "open" time when everyone is in town we have to get doctor appointments scheduled, eye doctor appointments, chiropractic appointments, and we still have to actually work. But who wants to work? I'd rather spend my time writing and/or reading. So...

I really need a Friday, and here we are, back to Friday again! Call me happy about that (visualize me running through a field of daisies, happily cavorting with the little animals and avoiding all bugs and mud). Friday is a wonderful invention. It's really too bad that I have to work on Saturdays so that my true Friday is really Saturday - LOL. Confused yet?

Today is my studio day, and even though I doubt I'll have time to play with art, I do have several stories waiting in the wings to be written for B2ME, and I have errands to do all over town. So I'll be driving around, doing some shopping, doing loads of laundry when I finally get back home, and writing, writing, writing. Because of that, I feel a need for pretty pictures today, so I'll show you lovely things that have no relation to my text - LOL. I love clouds, so I'll share some wonderful ones with you.

because I love unusual clouds, I have a few to share with the text below... )

OMG but it was a long, long day yesterday. I awakened at 2:30 am to do the last bit of work on my presentation that was due that night and got the last pages printed out. I then went my coffeeshop for oatmeal and coffee and an hour of reading. Then on to the shop to label and organize my overheads for the talk that evening and to finalize one of my B2ME stories. I had a goal of being able to eat something for lunch, but that didn't happen. So after a very busy day, I finally grabbed McDonald's quickly on the way to the meeting because I can't just survive on oatmeal for the entire day. A quick Mickey-D's and I was at least ready to be the focal point.

So, on February 23, 1455 (yes, that's 1455) the first printing of the Guttenburg Bible began in Mainz, Germany. The invention of the Guttenburg press and the inks needed to allow multiple copies of the written word revolutionized the dissemination of information and distribution of knowledge. It is generally considered to be a contributing factor to the Age of Enlightenment, etc, and just look at how far we have come.

For years I've been posting on my blog six-days-a-week unless I was on a vacation. But Saturday I tried to log in and couldn't. Thus started a weekend of semi-frustration and no access. Finally, this morning, I was able to align the stars properly, make the appropriate sacrifices to the electronic gods of the circuit, and waft the correct scent of insence in the air - voila! I am now connected again and I can communicate with myself and, through my thoughts, others again.

So my Manager is still too sick to come to work, although he is slowly getting better. I am hoping that I'll get a day off tomorrow, but I have to work today. Of course, I normally do work on Thursdays, so it's not an unexpected schedule, but I would really like my day off at some time this week. Even if I can take tomorrow off, I'm not 100% sure that he'll be feeling well enough to actually be of any help to my other staff instead of just sitting in the back room reading the newspaper or perching at the computer working on possible purchase orders and order recommendations.

So what God/ess did I anger when I said "I DO" to my DH?  Sometimes I wonder.

Pics and Story beneath the cut... )
Apparently I said something off the cuff that sent him off.  He had been planning to go to Patio Town and a couple of other places, but no...he was going to go home and watch the baseball game and I could just suffer for the afternoon.  Hmmmm, I don't recall suffering.  I went home, had a bit to eat, played LOTRO for a short time, and then read.  I managed, after reading for a few more happy hours, to finish my latest Kushiel book and start Book 8 of the series.  Later that night I joined him to watch Transformers and the new series "Fallen Skies".  He's still pissed off at me, and I have no idea why.

Once upon a time I was asked why I chose to marry my DH.  I said it was a matter of choices.  This was a choice that I walked into with eyes wide shut and with days like yesterday, I regret the choice.  But I'm pretty entrenched here and don't see any way out easily.  So I'll ride the rollercoaster and pull even more into myself - probably not the best reaction, but sometimes playing turtle can be helpful.

Blogspot has been having some "issues" over the past few days and I have been unable to post.  I really prefer to post here first, copying this over to my other two blogs, so I'm grateful that things are working again.

I have been writing like crazy, and reading lots - head-deep in a series that has me totally pulled in.  But NookColor just expanded their hardware and I also broke down and downloaded the app "Angry Birds" to play on it.  Fun.  But I still tend to dive into a book rather than play games.  I also downloaded an app for a digital drawing program and that will be fun to play with.  All told, the two apps were $5 combined, so I figured I could stretch that far.

I have to thank everyone for the many birthday wishes I received.  I had a fabulous day and my DH and I will go out on Sunday to celebrate with a nice dinner out and then come home and watch the finale of Survivor for this season.  We made a decision on an electrician for my father-by-marriage, and are doing a final interview with a new accountant next week, so things are progressing well.  I hope your week has gone well and that Blogger has come back to life once again.

It's been a hectic week, but things are falling into place.  My father-by-marriage lost power earlier this week and it turned out that the reason was something that will cause an electrician to remedy.

I also have been on the hunt for a new accountant since I was dumped by my previous one over an IRS action.  I think I may have found a good one (another thank you for Angie's List).  I spent quite a bit of time speaking with him on Thursday and I will schedule an appointment next week to meet him face-to-face along with my DH and we'll see if everyone gets a good feeling.  If so, I will have found a new accountant and that would be a load from my back.

I did a drabble that seeems to have hit people very well, I've gotten a lot of positive comments on it which makes me feel great.  I got the first step completed for my Beading for a Cure 2012 project.  I have it sitting in front of me now to figure out Step 2, but that will come clear by Wednesday when I can proceed.  I've had several excellent books that I've been reading on my Nook, so my mind has been happily immersed in some alternative worlds.  And, of course, there was a wedding across the Pond that turned out to be well worth watching and enjoying.  All in all, it was a good week.

A discussion that started out as a crit on a chapter in a longer tale has morphed into a discussion about reading habits and has led me to thinking about my own.

More below the cut... )
I also have found, that since I got my NookColor, I don't do that any more. I could still do it - each book does have a table of contents and, by utilizing that, I could quite easily flip back and forth. But I don't want to. I want the plot to unfold in the way that the author has crafted. I don't know if this is a function or aftereffect of my own writing efforts, or just a function of the fact that the book is an electronic one, but it is the way that I am currently reading. I will state for the record, however, that there is nothing wrong with knowing the end of the ride. It doesn't change the experience as you get there, and in some cases it actually can augment those experiences. If I didn't love the journey, I would never read and re-read the books that I dearly adore as many times as I continue to do. Why not choose a book that you dearly love to immerse yourself in today? I'll be buried in Kuchner's "Swordspoint" - recommended highly by friends and having hooked me within a chapter.

For some reason, even though I was up at 3:30 am as usual (yes...I know I'm crazy).

My LC writer's board just awarded me the title "Devil Lizard"
because I passed my 666th post. I'm hunting for an appropriate
spiney lizard photo for a new avatar. Maybe this guy?

But one of the best things to come out of my latest 24 hours of immersing myself in my writing and with my on-line writing friends are book recommendations, and I ended up with several that sounded interesting yesterday. I'll drop by Barnes & Noble today and read a few of them for free on my Nook. I'll figure out which one(s) I want to buy from that. I'll NookBook them - it's really all I read now-a-days. It's just so convenient - everything I want to read in one small package that goes with me where ever I go. I can do my research, and then switch to my latest novel, and all I need to do is tap the screen. It comes close to my personal definition of heaven. I really need to get more of my favorite fanfic onto it. Maybe I can find some time this week to begin converting a few pieces so that I can do that.

Breugar the Artist

I think he knows a lot more about what he is doing
artistically than I do, although digital art might
mystify him also.

Today is my day off and although I have errands, I purposely left today wide open so that I can continue working on the letters I need to send to the IRS and my sketch to painting Photoshop workshop that I'm trying to work through. Of course I'll also do laundry. I should actually do some housecleaning, but call me lazy - I really make a lousy housekeeper. REALLY lousy. I need to get my act together and do something soon, though, because it is starting to drive me crazy and that means my DH has been on the edge for at least a month. He has less tolerance than I do - LOL. Have a wonderfully creative and productive day.
