Today is my studio day and I'm hoping that I actually get it. But that may not be the case. DH is still sick and he works for me on Wednesdays. I may well get a phone call in the afternoon to come into the shop and work the rest of the day. That would mess up my laundry, working on my final pic for Binky, and my weekly phone call with Marlyn. All things that I was looking forward to (well, to be truthful, I usually don't look forward to laundry, just to the results of having clean towels and clothes). But, if I have to, I'll go in and try to work on my laptop instead of at home. I won't be happy though.

OK, I am known for packing my days off with stuff - lots of stuff - but today is a little ridiculous. I'll start at 5:45am getting the recycling ready and put out. Then, drive to the shop to get everything ready for the day (turning on the computers, etc). Then north 20 minutes to pick up Meghan for breakfast, which is another 20 minutes or so south where we will meet up with Chickie for said gustatorial feasting. After a conviviel shared talk over food, coffee and bacon (because nothing is complete without bacon), I will return Meghan to her homestead and continue on my way.

I have a day off today, so I might get a chance to get my illustration done for the LOTR Community Art Challenge, I need to do some samples for my upcoming lecture, and I want to rewrite the drabble I was discussing yesterday and see if I can be happier with it.

Yesterday was one of those two steps forward and one step back kind of days. I got most of my errands completed in the morning, then went home and finished my SV piece. That's done and ready to send on now. It's not too bad :-)

So, my auto repair people are pretty amazing. My DH did a total number on our car - after cleaning the throttle cable, draining the overage of gas from the engine, replacing the gaskets and spark plugs, and changing the oil (along with other things that were affected by DH's inability to start his car properly) we walked out of the repair shop much poorer. Ouch! I need to make an appointment for my own car to get a 100,000 mile checkover in February, I'm going to begin to feel as if I'm supporting these guys singlehandedly.

Today is Wednesday. It's supposed to be my studio day. But we're doing a 3-day End of Year sale starting tomorrow and my Manager gave up most of his Tuesday day off to check pricing on our sterling silver supplies so that they could be offered in the same merchandise. So I promised that I would come in for at least part of the day to make up for his giving up his day. Isn't that more like two wrongs not making a right? Oh well, one way or another, I'm working for the morning and probably part of the afternoon.

Yesterday was just as filled with work as I had thought, but things worked well. I had a fun-filled morning with Meghan, meeting Chickie for breakfast and then taking Meghan with me to the fabric store for some decorative braid, and Penco Art Supply Warehouse store. It's always so much fun to catch up with her.

Meghan is back in town. After being gone for almost two years, she has finally moved back to Minnesota and I can see her again. Count me happy! I'm picking her up and we're meeting Chickie for breakfast. Then I need to drop by the art supply warehouse for more gel pens, and she'll come along with me there.

So today is my day off - my studio day. It's the 7th of December, and I've received the first of my Holiday Cards from people on my f-list (Thanks, Silver Trails!!!). That means that I will be working like crazy on things today. I need to finish this repair because I want to have it available for her to pick up on Friday, and I need to do the interior of my cards and determine what, exactly, I want to do for the exterior. I can do some work on them tomorrow also, because I'm taking a second day off then. But, tomorrow is tomorrow and I'll discuss it then.

I actually got a lot done yesterday. I finished up my "Feast" story, now I need to get a quick beta on it, but that's not a problem. I did get some work done on my repair, although not as much as I had hoped. I got a chapter done for my writing friend in Germany, and did my errands, etc.

I'm always happy to have my studio day, a day when I can work on my own projects. Today, however, will be an extremely busy one. I have a list of errands that will take me all over town, the repair I started last week still has hours of work remaining on it, and I want to get my Solstice cards designed. Come to think of it...I've wanted to do that for the past two weeks so it has to move a bit higher on the list, I'm running out of time.

So I have a new accountant after the fiasco that occurred in March of this year. The first thing I hired him to do was 5500's for us which were extended to be due on October 15th. I picked the folder up from him last week and looked over it yesterday. Problems - misspelled names, and a bill that I think is way too high. I left him a phone message telling him to phone me today. We need to talk.

So it's my day off. That means I have a list of errands a mile long to accomplish this morning, and I think I'll start designing my Solstice cards while finishing some pending writing projects this afternoon.

I finally had a good night's sleep last night, probably because I was too tired to do otherwise.  And I also had finally fixed the toilet in our guest bathroom.

Text and pics below the cut... )

Part 2 and 2A above are what are broken and now covered by my margerine container.

After getting the water level down a bit, I noticed that it actually was an interior valve that leaked, not the water supply pipe.  The interior valve which is attached to the float is not something that will be easy to replace.  It was the very top of it that was leaking, badly, causing water to wick down the tank top and down the tank body to the floor.  Very bad.  I did, however, work a temporary fix.  I wanted to keep the spray totally in the tank, so I enclosed it.  I cut an empty margarine container to fit over the valve and duck taped it in.  Then I tested it.  It works beautifully.  With the tank top back on, it is completely invisible.  This will have to get fixed, but not immediately, so I'm very grateful that my fix - using something that my recycling people don't accept, ended up getting recycled to a good purpose anyway.

I spent the rest of yesterday on two things - scrubbing walls and floor in the main bathroom and the guest bathroom (still more to do, but some serious inroads - very happy, and finalizing a story for the August ALEC contest.  Thank goodness for friends who are willing to help me out by looking over stories at the last minute.  Thanks to Elfscribe, I ended up with a story that I'm quite pleased with.  So, all in all, my day off was a successful day, even if I did post late - LOL.

I can offer no reason for the delay in posting today.  It's not like I overslept.  Indeed, I couldn't sleet well at all, and finally gave up on that after waking up more than eight times between 1:00 and 1:50 am.

Text and pics below the cut... )

I had a long list of errands.  1) Open up the shop - while there I emptied the garbage and took the cardboard out for recycling.  2) I had some time to wait until Target opened at 8am, so I went to Perkins and had breakfast - a potato flip, a potato pancake enveloping scrambled eggs and bacon with a side of fresh fruit.  Nummy!  3) 8:00 am - called DH to wake him up, then went to Target.  Needed some hair conditioner, toothpaste and other silly things.  4) 8:15 am - crossed the street to get to Staples.  Good sale going on - with their instant rebate, got two reams of paper for the shop for 50 cents each!  Great deal!  5) 8:30 am - back in the car and heading to the post office to mail two Priority Mail packages.  6)  8:45 am - headed to my accountant's place to hand in an IRS notice about a charge they are assessing in error.  I talked to Paul yesterday and he'll handle this for me, so happy, happy.  7) 8:55 am - on to the city Licence Bureau to get the new license tabs for DH's car.  8) 9:15 - Dropped by the local convenience store to get Renaissance tickets for Chickie and Sharon for Labor Day weekend.  No luck though, they haven't received their tix yet.  No problem, I have time on this one.  9)  9:30 - Home again and catching up on Emails and notifications.  First load of laundry is in the washer.

I still have to go to the drugstore and the grocer later today, and I have one more load of laundry to get done.  Then I have to clean, clean, clean.  And if I can get a short nap in, I'm sure it would be a positive thing.  Oy!  Too much to do :-)

Wednesdays are my day off, and Mondays come after Sunday which is my other day off.  So Tuesdays always seem like a bridge day, a day to almost ignore in the road to Wednesday.

It is also the 16th of the month which means if I am writing a story for the August ALEC competition, I really have to get going.  I know how I wanted to write it for two weeks, but have been involved in Helyanwe's story instead because she's been more strident.  But she's going to have to meld to the background for a short time, even though I am at a critical junction in her story, because I would like to do a quick write-up for ALEC.  I always have problems with ALEC though, because I don't have a beta of my own and this is one of the rare stories that I can't post on my writer's board because it is a competition piece that gets submitted anonymously.  Of course, anyone familiar with my writing and characters would know it is me, so I also have to jump through some hoops to disguise, or at least not name, my non-canon characters.  It's a dance, and I don't necessarily do it well :-)  But I want to try again :-)

I'm running super late today. Too much to do. With Live Journal being down (actually, it's not down, but I'm one of 1000's who can't access it yesterday and today) I'm feeling like my friends have been cut off from me - isolated and alone! But it's a studio day, I have illustrations due, laundry to wash, and many, many errands to run. I'll be going like the energizer bunny...
